In Defense of College Radio

If you didn’t see this article, check it out. It’s a defense of college radio stations, one that I wholeheartedly agree with. While one can learn stuff from “genius” applications and Pandora algorithms, there is still nothing like a knowledgeable DJ, still nothing like people playing stuff they love. From the article:

“Besides, in a world where we can log on and find any song we want, it turns out that many people enjoy letting someone else curate a set list. College radio, free of the demands of profit and playability, is a particularly great source for such serendipity.”

I have a theory that when something is played with love it actually sounds better. College stations often blare loud junk; but I listen to our college station off and on, and regularly hear good songs I wouldn’t otherwise come across.
